2013-12-18 | Duran Duran's top moments of 2013

Duran Duran's year will be marked by what lies ahead in 2014: a new album and the band's first tour dates in more than a year and a half. "If only you could hear the music we're making," bassist John Taylor tweeted Dec. 16, "You would be dancing."
Wedding 20: 2013 was a year of milestones for Duran and many of the 13 albums that preceded its next effort. In February, the band's hit 1993 "The Wedding Album" turned 20 to much fanfare. Later in the year, on Black Friday, the band chose to mark the occasion for Record Store Day, releasing a limited edition white vinyl version of "No Ordinary EP." Among the other albums to celebrate big birthdays was 1983's "Seven and the Ragged Tiger." ... full article on examiner.com.

2013-11-29 | 20 Best Music Videos Ever Made

No:20 - Album: Duran Duran - Song: “Come Undone” - Artist: Duran Duran - Director: Julien Temple - Premiere: 1993
Having climbed back into the popularity charts with their previous single, "Come Undone" allowed Duran Duran to express themselves more creatively. Some parts of the song have been shot in the London Aquarium, which had the band members standing around looking cool while the animals in the tanks went around their daily business. This happy co-existence is disturbed when a girl tied up in chains is thrown into a tank. As she struggles to escape, the footage is interspersed with short scenes of various people..uhh.. 'coming undone'.
The shots of the girl in the pool are particularly brilliant with the light streaming down from above. We actually had a tough time deciding which Duran Duran video was better; this one or "Hungry Like A Wolf", but in the end what settled it in "Come Undone" 's favour was the use of lighting. The video is very dark, with the only lights being the ones in the fish tanks. This creates a kind of tense atmosphere that suits the mood of the song. Add to this, the fact that you keep wondering till the end whether the girl in the tank survives or not; making it a really cool watch. (Taken from avmax.tech2.in.com)

2013-11-20 | 30th Anniversary of Seven And The Ragged Tiger

Seven and the Ragged Tiger is the third studio album by the English pop rock band Duran Duran, released in November 1983. It was the band's first and only number one album in the UK, and would prove to be the last studio album for the band's original line-up until 2004's Astronaut.
Vocalist Simon Le Bon said the album "is an adventure story about a little commando team. 'The Seven' is for us — the five band members and the two managers — and 'the Ragged Tiger' is success. Seven people running after success. It's ambition. That's what it's about."
EMI re-released the album in 2010 in two configurations - a two-disc digipak and a three-disc (two CD, one DVD) boxset. The three disc boxset includes on the DVD the first official release of the "As The Lights Go Down" video. (en.wikipedia.org)

2013-10-21 | 25th Anniversary of Big Thing

In 1988, the musical climate was changing, veering to a more dance-based groove. Duran Duran were known primarily as an early '80s new wave synth-pop act, and the band was sitting at a career crossroads; Big Thing was their stab at maintaining mainstream popularity.
Turning to more synth and bass-heavy grooves than their previous efforts, Big Thing was seen by many as the band's "house music" album. Tracks like the first single "I Don't Want Your Love", the title track, and the album's second single "All She Wants Is" cemented the band's more aggressive dance angle... (duranasty.com)

During the interview, JK asked Nile: “Are you going to get him on stage? Simon, if you’re listening, we urge you to go on stage. It would be like the moment of the summer.” Nile replied: “I’ll ask him to do it.” Backstage, Heart’s Margherita Taylor interviewed Nile and asked him about his set list. He revealed: “The good thing is that when I was on the station, JK & Lucy suggested that Simon Le Bon come down and join us and he’s going to do it. He’s going to show up! I can’t wait to see what it sounds like. We’ve had no rehearsal or nothing!” And after the gig, Nile said: “Yo, JK & Lucy. I said I would get Simon Le Bon stage and I did it!”.... (radiotoday.co.uk)

2013-04-24 | Duran Duran On TV Mania and The Album

Trust members of Duran Duran to record an album so innovative, it would be 16 years till it became mainstream...
Imagine making an album set in the future then losing it, only to discover it 16 years later when the future it foretold is happening. As strange as it sounds this is what happened to Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes and their former guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, collectively known as TV Mania. Their album Bored with Prozac and the Internet? has finally been released, 16 years after it was recorded, back then they were ahead of their time both musically and in envisioning what the future would be like. However, for both of them predicting future trends in music and technology is something they’re long used to... More on sabotagetimes.com.

2013-04-23 | Duran Duran with Ronson in studio

Duran Duran has been back in the studio on and off since last month with producer Mark Ronson, and the band has posted another batch of photos from those sessions.
Duran headquarters tweeted about the studio shots Tuesday. They were the first set of snaps showing the band working with Ronson, who produced the band's preceding album, the critically acclaimed "All You Need Is Now."
That album, which harks back to Duran's trademark sound, was popular with fans as well. Ronson, a longtime fan of the band, encouraged that return to the band's new wave roots.
In the new photos, singer Simon Le Bon, bassist John Taylor, drummer Roger Taylor, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, Ronson, and longtime guitarist Dom Brown sit with and without instruments.
In one shot, Le Bon and John Taylor share a laugh. In the final photo, Rhodes walks down a hallway toward a Pink Floyd print on the wall... More on examiner.com.

2013-04-22 | Simon Le Bon mourns

In a series of Twitter.com posts on Monday (22Apr13), the singer reveals he will always regret not visiting his ailing friend one last time, but will always remember his famous smile. He writes, "I've been putting off writing this all day. My good friend and shipmate Magnus Olsson died on the weekend. That smile, and the laughter which warmed your heart when all around, everything seemed damp and cold. Goodbye dear friend." ... More on express.co.uk.

2013-04-16 | Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame vote: Duran Duran takes it all.
The readers have spoken. And they say that, out of 32 acts that have been so far snubbed by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Duran Duran is most worthy to be inducted next.
You fans were hungry for the Rock Hall. Like wolves.
Yes, those uber-fashionable, 1980s art school boys from Britain have won our Rock and Roll Hall of Fame challenge, beating fellow British finalist Depeche Mode 14,409 votes (54 percent) to 12,384.
What does this mean? Will this sway the real members of the induction committee at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Do they even know about our little contest?
Probably not. But it was kind of fun, wasn’t it?
Duran Duran beat a field that included Kiss, the Cars, Iron Maiden, and lots of other bands with seriously-dedicated followings. So you middle-aged women still wearing pastel T-shirts cut at the shoulder to one side should be proud. Your wild boys won.
Actually, Duran Duran beat Depeche Mode more easily than it beat Kiss in the semifinals, where they garnered 52 percent of the vote.
Perhaps next year some of these bands — all of those mentioned qualify for the ballot — will be on their way to the real Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On April 18, Rush, Heart, Public Enemy, Albert King, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will be inducted at a ceremony in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO May 18.
Maybe we can talk about it all over again next year. Meanwhile, go Duran Duran. Thanks for voting... More on dd.com.

2013-01-14 | Debut TV Mania

Back in the mid-90s, Duran Duran’s keyboardist and founding member Nick Rhodes and guitarist Warren Cuccurullo had what turned out to be a premonition of a society in which voyeurism was woven into the cultural fabric. In wanting to share their vision of the future, they created its soundtrack in the form of an album called TV Mania: Bored With Prozac and The Internet?, that they also intended to turn into a Broadway musical.
Produced by TV Mania (Rhodes and Cuccurullo), Mark Tinley and Anthony J Resta, and mixed by Bob St. John, Bored With Prozac and The Internet? is a conceptual soundtrack for what the duo imagined as a “bizarre TV cyber soap opera,” about a family who gives away their freedom to scientists in exchange for a hi-tech modern lifestyle and reality show fame. With song titles like “Yoghurt and Fake Tan,” and “Using A Hidden Camera—Eyes In The Sky,” the pastiche of cool beats and conceptual content proved more prescient than its creators could ever have anticipated... more on duranduran.com and tvmaniamusic.com.

2013-01-08 | Koishii & Hush feat. John Taylor

Note from Koishii & Hush: With the first single from our album being released today, it is extra special for us as it is a collaboration with John Taylor. As long-time fans of Duran Duran, getting the opportunity to work with John was fantastic. Before we started working on the album, we put together a wish list of people we wanted to have on it and luckily enough John was into our idea and agreed to take part.
After meeting with John at the Toronto show in April, 2010, we began creating a backing track that would capture the mood and feel of what we were looking for. Once we gave that to John, he began the process of writing the lyrics and recording the vocals in LA. We think it is a cool fusion of pop and electronic. Somewhat dark and sensual while maintaining an upbeat vibe... more on duranduran.com

2013-01-07 | Update from band

The band is still on a bit of an extended break – Simon, John and Roger are all still on holiday through the middle of January – but the most exciting news of all: Simon, Nick, Roger, John & Dom are going to go back in to the studio with Mark Ronson sometime in early March, 2013. After a long, and well deserved break, the band members are thrilled to not only be back writing and recording together again, but also that they’ll be with Mark. As John mentioned in his Year-End Katy’s Kafe on the fan community site, this will be the first time Duran Duran has worked with the same producer twice in a row since they worked with Colin Thurston on DURAN DURAN and RIO. The whole band agree that Mark re-energized them, and since they were unanimously pleased with the results of ALL YOU NEED IS NOW, they can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
